"The New Dixie Syncopators" In about 1962 some of my classmates and I founded this band. We got encouragement from all sides and were even given permission to use the school building for rehearsals, in spite of the janitor’s grumbling. Our first gig at a school-party was a great success, although we only mastered three songs. It was all very encouraging.
